The goal of the school is to have contact with every parent and we expect every parent to attend this event. This year, the format for Curriculum Night will change a little bit. It will be as follows:
- Open House begins at 6:30 p.m.
- First grade will have a formal presentation starting at 6:30 p.m. Therefore, if you are a first grade parent or you have children in multiple grades, you must attend the first grade presentation at 6:30 p.m. You will be able to visit other classrooms after the first grade presentation ends.
- The rest of the grades will follow an Open House format. Students and parents will visit classrooms starting at 6:30 p.m. Parents will become familiar with the curriculum students will learn this year, classroom routines, and how parents can support learning at home.
- Parents will be asked to visit different locations in addition to their child’s classroom teacher. These locations include specials (physical education, music, art, etc.) teachers, the principal, the social worker, the PTSO table, and the Des Plaines Public Library table.
- We will raffle games for families who visit all the stations. We look forward to seeing everyone!
Arriving to School on Time
- The official beginning of the school day is 9:00 a.m. Students must be in their classrooms when the 9:00 O’clock bell rings. Therefore, students need to arrive five to ten minutes before 9:00 a.m. Students can arrive as early as 8:45, when supervision begins. Students who arrive at or after 9:00 a.m. are considered tardy and need to have a parent come to the office and sign them in.
After School Dismissal
- School dismissal is at 3:15 on Monday and 3:30 Tuesday to Friday. Please remember the following when picking up your child:
- Students in Grades 3 to 5 exit through the main door. Students in grades 1 and 2 exit through door 8 on the North end of the building. Kindergarten students exit through their exterior classroom doors.
- Parking is not allowed in front of the school building.
- The parking lot at the west of the school building is reserved for staff members.
- Cell phone use while driving on school grounds is prohibited by state law.
- If you pick up your child on the driveway, please stop at the crossing.
- If a relative or another person is allowed to pickup your child after school, inform the school office in writing.
Use of Cell Phones on School Grounds
- Please remember that it is a state law to not use your cell phone while driving on school grounds. Thank you for your cooperation.
Breakfast and Lunch
- This year, free breakfast after the bell is offered to all students. Students will be given time to eat breakfast in their classroom. Therefore, snack time is being eliminated. If your child choses not to eat breakfast and brings a snack to school, he or she will be asked to eat it while the rest of the students eat breakfast. Lunch is also free to every student. Please note also that students, who choose not to eat the school lunch for religious, diet or any other reasons need to bring their own lunch.
